Burgundy Nails are sexy, vampy and the perfect fall into winter red.

Burgundy is our readers’ favorite dark season nail shade. What’s not to love about it? It’s a red nail color that seems to go with everything you pair it with.

It’s a classy, yet still conservative pick. You can wear it to fall and winter festivities like Christmas and Valentine’s Day, or as an everyday fall-back shade when you don’t know what else to wear.

In this post we’re going to be covering burgundy nail polishes from OPI, a luxury nail brand since 1989. Because OPI has been around for some time now, they have released many glorious burgundies and my New Year’s wish is there will be many more to come.

Below are 6 OPI burgundies, from the earliest to most recent release:

OPI Malaga Wine Swatch

OPI Malaga Wine

OPI Malaga Wine is from the Original 1989 Launch Collection. It’s been in production for that long! Shown in 2 coats, Malaga Wine is a silky, easy to apply, classic burgundy cream.

OPI I’m Not Really a Waitress Swatch

OPI I’m Not Really a Waitress

Shown in 2 coats and from the 1999 Fall/Winter Hollywood Collection, I’m Not Really a Waitress is a burgundy pearl shimmer. This shade is an easy, elegant Christmas nail.

Remember when brands had one collection for Fall/Winter and one for Spring/Summer? OPI began phasing out this release schedule in the early 2000s. I miss those days. Today, you usually get just 2-3 months with a new collection before the next one is pushed out.

While I appreciate all the creativity, the newer, faster paced release model sometimes feels rushed; like you’ve got barely enough time to take a deep breath and enjoy all the colors before having to pivot to the next thing.

OPI Got the Blues for Red Swatch

OPI Got the Blues for Red

Shown in 2 coats and from the 2005 Fall Chicago Collection, Got the Blues for Red is now a Malaga Wine rival. You can barely tell the difference, though, my personal view is that Malaga Wine is slightly cooler toned, whereas Got the Blues for Red is slightly warmer toned.

OPI We the Female Swatch

OPI We the Female

From the 2016 Fall Washington D.C. Collection and shown in 2 coats, this burgundy cream has great shine and has cozy, berry undertones. In my opinion, the Washington D.C. Collection is one of OPI’s best ever collections, as it’s filled with many OPI iconic shades.

OPI Como se Llama? Swatch

OPI Como se Llama?

Shown in 2 coats and from the 2018 Fall Perú Collection, this is the warmest, rustiest, most brick-like burgundy I’ve seen from OPI. You could almost call it a maroon. I really love this burgundy for warmer skin tones.

OPI Complimentary Wine Swatch

OPI Complimentary Wine

Shown in 2 coats, and from the 2020 Fall Muse of Milan Collection, this is a blackened burgundy. In some scenarios, it looks like a black with deep red undertones, in others, it looks like a deep red with black undertones. This is an ideal burgundy for wearing to date night or as a staple winter red.
