essie defines hi maintenance as:
how does she do it? this perfectly innocent, sheer pale pink nail lacquer makes for flawless manis and pedis that only look time-consuming.
essie defines minimalistic as:
clean. spare. chic. brush on this light-filled, barely there pink nail color for an upscale manicure look that’s full of potential.
To see the differences visually, below you will find swatches of each shade with all these conditions the same:
- One coat of essie strong start base coat
- Two coats of color
- One coat of essie speed setter top coat
essie hi maintenance
We first swatched hi maintenance last spring in three coats, where we defined it as giving the look of mannequin hands, meaning it gives the illusion of a more elongated hand for lighter colored skin tones.
It’s designed to be a sheer nail polish, and is warm toned. It looks nice in either two or three coats, but patchy in one coat, so we suggest going for two coats minimum with this shade.
Due to its sheerness, hi maintenance is a great choice for a french manicure base.
essie minimalistic
essie minimalistic is a creamy opaque light pink, very similar to essie fiji, which you can find swatches of in this article on Pastel Pink Nails. It is a cool toned pink shade.
Though, it is a touch more pale than fiji and you only need two coats to reach opacity - fiji required three coats to opacity for us, so it truly is a more “minimal” shade.
Due to its opacity, minimalistic is a great choice for a pastel pink french manicure tip.
To recap the main differences between hi maintenance and minimalistic are:
hi maintenance is designed to be sheer, minimalistic is designed to be opaque
hi maintenance is a warmer toned pink, minimalistic is a cooler toned pink
hi maintenance is great for a french manicure base, minimalistic is great for a pastel french manicure tip
Both shades offer a clean, feminine look, and the major question now is do you want a sheer or opaque shade?
