Blue nail colors have increased in popularity this last year and these serene shades now rival the demand of red nail colors, which we’re happy about.
Blue nails used to only trend in deep winter months, like January, and in the height of summer patriotic season, peaking in July, but they’re now on my trend list as a consistent color of interest.
They’re also a common theme in spring wedding nail collections, due to the Victorian adage, ‘something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.’
At the time this phrase originated it also included, ‘and a sixpence in her shoe,’ for attracting prosperity (but why did we stop saying that part?)
The ‘something blue,’ part is meant to attract good luck, though blue as a color is also associated with purity, fidelity and warding off evil eyes, all important energies for blessing a new marriage.
Blue nail colors deserve their day in the sun - they’re peaceful, calming and some of them are quite cheerful, where darker blues, like navy hues, have a more sophisticated, elegant appeal.

L.A. Colors Color Craze Gel Splashy
essie bikini so teeny
She’s an icon. She’s a cult classic.
Shown in 2 coats, bikini so teeny is one of the most recognized shades essie has ever made. It’s a light blue with cornflower hues and a slight silver sparkle that gives it a cool, chill shine.
essie offbeat chic
Have you ever seen a nail polish in the store that jumps out at you from across the room? It’s almost glowing on the shelf, calling your name, beckoning you to it. There may as well be glitter in its aura.
That was offbeat chic for me.
Shown in 2 coats, offbeat chic was released as part of the 2024 trend odd squad collection and it’s a vibrant cerulean blue. Wearing it feels like a beach day on the nails.
essie butler please
Shown in 2 coats, butler please is a bright, cobalt blue with a cream finish. It’s one of my favorite blues for summer and patriotic nail art.
essie from a to zzz
Shown in 2 coats, from a to zzz is a muted blue with a silver pearl finish. It has a frosty, wintery look and what I like most about it is that it’s a pearl; you don’t often see blues with pearl finishes.
OPI Less is Norse
Shown in 2 coats, OPI Less is Norse is a creamy, dark, denim blue that’s best suited for your fall and winter manicures. What’s unique about it is Less is Norse has the feel of being a moody, vampy shade, which you typically only get with deep reds, yet it’s a blue.

L.A. Colors Color Craze Wired
Wired is a vibrant cobalt blue nail polish with a metallic chrome finish. Shown in 2 coats, with no top coat, it has a gorgeous shine that allows it to stand alone and is available at an amazing price point.
OPI Isn’t it Grand Avenue
Shown in 2 coats, Isn’t it Grand Avenue is an intense navy blue cream. It’s conservative and classy, so when OPI suggests wearing it for museum gallery evening viewings, perhaps for First Fridays, we wholeheartedly agree.

Shown in 1 coat, caviar bar is my current favorite navy nail polish. It’s a long lasting 1 coat wonder that’s a deep, inky almost blackish navy blue.
Because it’s long wearing and you need such a small amount of nail polish to get the job done, this shade is one of the most economical nail polishes you can buy. You really get your money’s worth with this one.
