Late winter 2021, Dollar Tree instituted a rolling 25% price increase across the board. No longer a “dollar store,” the Dollar Tree is now a $1.25, $3 and $5 store.
If you run a tight ship on your home accounting, you will notice these price differences.
You may scan your cart before checking out to ask yourself what you can do without, putting an item or two back, as we did when shopping for this post. You may stand in front of some things, asking, “Do I really need this?” before placing the product in your cart, more than in the old days.
After all, Dollar Tree doesn’t have a return or refund policy, it has an exchange policy. Exchanges are accepted on unopened merchandise with the original receipt. You can’t get your money back if it doesn’t work out, so being discerning can be an ally to your bottom line.
On the upside, when things cost more, it can really help you hone in on which items bring you the most value and joy. The amount of joy each item brings we call the “joy utility.” Each item you take home, even if it is fewer of them, can bring you more joy per unit cost when you are more mindful of what you bring to the check out stand.
All that said, there are still some pretty good deals at Dollar Tree, even if moving forward you are shopping with a more discerning eye.
We sometimes also buy polish there, when the deal or color is right, as shown in our last article on 6 Nail Polish Brands To Get At The Dollar Store.
1 - Manicure Sets
These make great gifts and are awesome for travel, they have several types available.
2 - Nail Polish Remover
Nail solvents galore at the Dollar Tree, they have several varieties of remover including pump bottle removers, which can be hard to find but are very handy.
3 - Toenail Clippers
We don’t typically advise cutting nails, instead filing them, as cutting can promote splitting, but sometimes it is the fastest way to get to your goal. If you must cut your nails, do it after the shower or bath, when they are most pliable and least likely to fracture.
4 - Nail Brushes
Nail brushes are incredibly handy for cleaning under the nail tip and the top nail itself after manicure prep but before paint. This is an awesome deal, so we picked these up. As a side note, they are also useful for scrubbing produce, like potatoes.
5 - Cotton Rounds
You get 80 rounds. Great for a pinch, though if you’re feeling super frugal, a better price could be found using worn and cut up sweatshirts or flannels for your rounds.
6 - Nail Art Striping Polish
Nail art line brushes in paint are handy, and Dollar Tree carries them in several colors including white, black, yellow, coral, gold and silver.
7 - Hand Masks
If you are looking for a nourishing hand treatment to try at less than brand name prices, Dollar Tree can help you out.
8 - Nail Hardener Treatment
Nail Hardeners do promote stronger nails when used over time or when used consistently as your base coat.
9 - Pedicure Sets
Dollar Tree carries multiple varieties of these, all of them we saw include the toe separators, which can be useful on their own.
10 - Cuticle Oil
This product is comparable to the name brand cuticle oils available for around 300% more. It works and it doesn’t contain parabens (some name brand versions do).
11 - Mini Hand Creams
These are great for your purse, car or travel manicure kit. Gold Bond Brand was recommended in our post 7 Best Hand Creams For Dry, Sensitive Hands.
12 - Mini Paint Mixing Jars
These are great for creating your own nail polish combinations.
13 - Nail Files
Nail Shapers, Nail Files, Metal Files, Emery Boards, Dollar Tree carries nail files galore in a variety shapes and sizes. The file pictured is marketed as a nail shaper, meaning you can use it as the final step to choose your favorite tip shape, once and for all.
One great thing about dollar stores is that they are everywhere. You can find them in urban areas, rural areas and anyplace in between.
While the prices at the Dollar Tree have increased this year, stores like the Dollar Tree are ubiquitous, meaning, you are sure to find manicure and pedicure supplies at an affordable price, pretty much anywhere you happen to find yourself.
Selections at each Dollar Tree vary.
