essie Nail Polish Price Increase

Updated 2023.07.23. This article was originally written in 2022.

Prices are increasing at essie.

They aren’t alone, as Orly raised their price for a standard bottle of polish from $9.99 to $10.50, a 5.11% increase in price in June.

OPI also recently raised their price from around $10.49 to $10.79 a standard bottle, a 2.86% increase. (2023 Update: the OPI price has increased another 6.48% to now $11.49 a bottle.)

essie nail polish bottles are now being listed as $10.00 on their website, where the former price had been $9.00 per standard bottle.

This $1.00 increase amounts to 11.11% per bottle, slightly above the average inflation rate of 9.1% this year.

So if you have an essie (or ten of them) on your needs or wants list, it seems the time is now to get your nail polish at a lower price.

This news would make it a good time for sharing your nail polish collection with friends and family.

Let your circle know they can borrow from your collection, set up an informal swap or offer your unused/extra bottles as gifts to other nail polish lovers in your life.

It is now more important than ever to search out and take advantage of the % off or BOGO offers in stores. It is also an opportune moment to consider looking at thrift stores for pre-owned nail polish.

Some people give away polishes they never even opened.

One fascinating economic point about this price increase is that it now puts essie nail polish on the same playing field of independent brands, where a standard bottle is also $10.00.

If you like indie nail polish brands and previously didn’t buy indie due to their sometimes higher price points compared to the current mainstreet brands, you may now think again and buy independent.

Given that fact, it could be awesome news for all the cool small business brands.

While this price increase won’t stop us from still believing in essie (their gel couture line is phenomenal) and looking forward to their launches, this price hike did seem to be just a matter of time and on-par with the cost increases in shipping and gas.
